Hearty congratulations to Lagos Fashion Week on winning the 2025 Earthshot Prize, becoming the first fashion platform in the world to receive this honour.
Today, I received Mr Tokunbo Akerele, Chairman of Lagos Fashion Week, and Mrs Omoyemi Akerele, its Founder and Executive Director, who came to present the award to me on behalf of the organisation.
This recognition reflects the direction we are taking in Lagos. It shows that our push for responsible growth is producing real outcomes, even in industries like fashion that are not always part of climate conversations.
Since it was founded in 2011, Lagos Fashion Week has grown from a small showcase for African designers into the most influential fashion event on the continent. Today, it goes beyond the runway, encouraging better production habits, fair practices, and more mindful consumption, while carrying African creativity confidently onto the global stage.
