Where did the genie in a bottle myth/ story originate, and has it always been accompanied by three or so wishes?
Genies, or djinns, have been part of Islamic and pre-Islam Arabian mythology and folklore since well before the beginning of Islam. Depending on the time period they were considered either gods (pre-Islam) or minor spirits or demons (Islam), sometimes helpful, sometimes malicious. The "genie in a lamp/bottle" trope seems to originally come from a story in One Thousand and One Nights, thought there are other genies in the book who are not captured in a lamp or bottle.
Note that in the 1001 Nights story the Genie/Jinn does not have magical wish granting powers, D&D be damned. It granted wishes 'mundanely'- If you wished for gold it gave you some of its gold, if you wished for a [extremely improbable thing] "I happen to possess a [extremely improbable thing]. Here it is."

The concept of the genie, or jinn, can be traced back to ancient Arabian mythology. In these myths, jinn were supernatural beings that were created out of smokeless fire and had free will. They could take on various forms and possessed great powers such as invisibility, shape-shifting, and teleportation.
The idea of trapping a jinn inside a container such as a bottle or lamp emerged later on in Arab folklore. It was believed that if one possessed such an object containing a trapped jinn, they could use it to make wishes and have their desires granted by the powerful creature.

Genies or djinns are supernatural creatures from pre-Islamic and Islamic mythology. They are associated with shapeshifting, possession and madness. In later Western popular representation, they became associated with wish-granting and often live in magic lamps or bottles. They appear in One Thousand and One Nights and its adaptations, among other stories. The wish-granting djinns from One Thousand and One Nights, however, are the divs of Persian origin, not the Arabian djinns.
Djinn is the original term. Genie was first used in the 1704 French translation of One Thousand and One Nights by Antoine Galland and is mostly associated with wish-granting djinns. The terms Ifrit and marid typically refer to evil djinns.
Genies have been depicted in different ways depending on time and location. A central trait is that of shapeshifting. In Western portrayals in particular, they grant wishes, sometimes corrupting the wishes by interpreting them overly literally. They are often depicted as living or being trapped in various types of containers such as lamps, bottles, or jars. They are variously portrayed as good or evil.

"Djinns and genies have appeared in diverse genres including comedy, horror, and musicals. The mid-10th century story The Case of the Animals versus Man uses a djinn for political allegory.Djinns are depicted in the frame story of One Thousand and One Nights as well as several of the tales within, including "The Fisherman and the Jinni" where a fisher finds a djinn in a jar and forces it to help him and "The Second Kalandar's Tale" where a djinn kidnaps a newlywed woman. The tale of Aladdin, which was not originally included in One Thousand and One Nights, is a famous story of genies being helpful that has been adapted numerous times including as the 1961 film The Wonders of Aladdin and the 1992 animated film Aladdin. The 1879 poem "The Khan's Devil" by John Greenleaf Whittier uses an evil genie as a symbolic representation of alcoholism. Fantasy stories of wish fulfillment occasionally depict the release of djinns sealed away long ago, as in the 1883 short story "Containing Mrs Shelmire's Djinn" by Max Adeler and the 1945 novel Miss Carter and the Ifrit by Susan Alice Kerby"
An ifrit is a type of demon in Islamic mythology and folklore, born of fire and often associated with the underworld and the spirits of the dead. An ifrit is a powerful and malevolent supernatural being, who can be either male or female, and has wings and smoke-like features. An ifrit is a kind of jinn, a creature that is between humans and angels in the Islamic cosmology.

ifrit, in Islamic mythology and folklore, a class of powerful malevolent supernatural beings.
Arabic philologists generally assigned it the triconsonantal root ʿ-f-r, to which they attached the meanings “rebellious” and “strong.” Ifrit subsequently came to refer to an entire class of formidable rebellious beings.
Popular tales generally depict an enormous winged creature of smoke, either male or female, who lives underground and frequents ruins. Ifrits live in a society structured along ancient Arab tribal lines, complete with kings, tribes, and clans.
Although, most often depicted as a wicked and ruthless being.

Perch selection:
Hawks often choose prominent perches like power lines or treetops to scan for prey and other hawks
Vocalizations:
While not as prominent as visual cues, some hawk species use calls to communicate with each other, particularly during territorial disputes
Aerial displays:
To attract mates, hawks perform elaborate aerial maneuvers like steep dives and circling patterns, which are easily visible to other hawks in the area
Soaring flight:
During breeding season, hawks frequently soar high in the air, which helps them survey their territory and spot potential mates or intruders
Superior vision:
Hawks have incredibly sharp eyesight, allowing them to see prey and other hawks from great distances
